Fair Trade Website

Good Evening,
I have activated our campaign website, and I would like the class to provide some feedback. If you have any suggestions with regards to the wording of the articles, suggestions for additional website content, or just general comments, I would love to hear from you and try to incorporate your ideas. As Dr. Blau has mentioned numerous times, this is part of the process of Deep Democracy, and all voices and ideas are equally important. Please understand though that any suggestions will take time to implement on my end. The comments section of this post will be designed for you all to leave your opinions, requests, critiques, and suggestions for improvement. Please feel free to e-mail me as well if you are uncomfortable with posting to the general public. My e-mail is wamiller@email.unc.edu. You may also e-mail Dr. Blau or Jordan with any concerns or requests.

The web address is: http://www.SayYesToFairTrade.org

I am looking forward to hearing from you all!

Best,
Whitney

  1. The website looks really great!

I do have some comments about the formatting:
    - In the fair trade principles part, all are numbered 1 instead of 1-6.
    - Also under this section...Is there a reason for the double spacing after every two principles that are stated?
    - Under fair trade certification, there should be a better distinction between the three paragraphs by skipping line before the second paragraph that starts with "Fair Trade Certified agricultural products"...

As far as content, perhaps we can also include links to newspaper articles or other publications about attempts for free trade in the Chapel-Hill/Carborro area. This could serve to better inform students and other people about the current reality about free trade in the area.

    Hope these comments are useful.

Thanks Whitney for activating this campaign website.

  2. Andrea,
Thank you so much for your comments! I am working on the 1-6 formatting issue, and I hope that that will be resolved soon. Also, the formatting is a little elementary because I am in the process of creating tabs for each heading. So the "learn more about fair trade" section will include a "mission statement" tab, "about us" tab, "about fair trade" tab. For now, I just put everything up because Dr. Blau wanted to have something up when the flyers went out. I am also working on getting some more students to help with the writing of the website.

The "how you can get involved" section will also have sub sections. Those are "community events" and I think links to newspaper articles would fall nicely under that heading as well as educational outreach. It will also have a "contacts" tab where interested community members can reach out to us and the steering committee to volunteer as well.

The "how to purchase fair trade products" is going to have two tabs that feature local area businesses as well as online resources for consumers if they are unable to find the fair trade products they are looking for in local stores. It will also feature a weekly interview with someone that is involved in fair trade and how it has impacted their life. We are going for the "human factor" here.

Thank you again for your comments and I will get right to work on improving the site!

    Best,
    Whitney

  3. I've looked at the website and you've done a great job with it. My only suggestion is to break up the "Learn more about fair trade" more. Specifically, have either borders around each section or separators for example. I think it would be more appealing to read all the information that way and it wouldn't just look like a lot of text to digest.
