Journal One

Soon, I will be volunteering with the ESL program for Chapel Hill and Carborro schools. I am attending the training program tonight from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. I am eager to work with children and advancing their knowledge and ability to speak/comprehend English. Within the ESL program I am specifically working with Spanish speaking children. I think mainstream society tends to hold barriers upon others who do not speak/comprehend the English language. I think society is on an upturn from holding barriers through having various resources available in other languages and through volunteering programs that help break this barrier. As a personal reflection, learning a new language is challenging, so I am glad to be helping and dedicating my time to their gaining of knowledge. =)
