I feel that the group that I work with at the Carolina Apartments, which consists of mainly people of Hispanic and Burmese origin are seen in a homogeneous light. These people especially Hispanics are seen are as poorer, less fortunate people that don't have the abilities or resources to maintain and reach the "American standard" of life. They are seen as mainly illegal immigrants or immigrants that are not going to be as beneficial to the American society because they do not speak English or they don't have as much as the "average" American and so they are seemingly stuck in this negative stereotype as this subordinate group. I haven't actually had the pleasure of working with the elementary and middle school students yet because school was out and on delays all week that significantly limited the work for me. However, I look forward to next week with them.
